Year overview
Berg Rottland
The Rüdesheimer Berg Rottland vineyard is a traditional steep slope on the western edge of Rüdesheim, below the Niederwald Monument with its Germania statue. The name "Rottland" derives from the Middle High German word "rotten" and refers to the clearing of the land in the 11th century for viticultural use. The soils, composed of quartzite, slate, gravel, and loess, along with the mild microclimate near the Rhine, allow for powerful, mineral Rieslings with a fine acid structure and great aging potential.
